**List: Mordvin Ministry the Bible ( the Bible ) Mordvin... MORDVINIAN, OR MORDUIN. "THIS dialect of the Finnish is spoken on the banks of the Oka and the Volga, in the governments of Nijnii-Novgorod and Kasan.   According to Tooke, members of this tribe are also to be met with in Orenburg.   The number of individuals composing this horde is very uncertain: they profess Chris- tianity, but retain many heathenish practices.   They were brought before the notice of the Russian Bible Society in 1817, and a translation of the New Testament was undertaken for their benefit.   The Four Gospels left the press in 1821, and ultimately an edition of 3000 copies of the New Testament was printed under the superintendence of the Kasan Bible Society."--The Bible of Every Land.
