Pultpit Speech II KL Paulson Preacher Silcox 2-2-1999STOREHOUSE TITHING INTRODUCTION:
Definition: The practice of giving 10 percent of your gross earnings / income to your local church.
-- ALL giving and sacrifice is a way of honouring and worshipping God.
-- ALL Christians ought to tithe.Tithing was COMMENCED by Abraham (Gen. 14:18-20) CONTINUED by Jacob (Gen. 28:20-22) CONFIRMED by Moses (Lev. 27:30) COMMANDED by Malachi (Mal. 3:10) COMMENDED by the Lord Jesus Christ (Mat. 23:23) COMMISSIONED by God (I Cor. 9:14) CONFORMED by Apostle Paul (I Cor. 16:2)I. S.T. is Scriptural Teaching.
- tithe = 10% of all income.
- the tithe is the Lord's."(9)Honour the LORD with thy substance, and with the firstfruits of all thine increase: (10)So shall thy barns be filled with plenty, and thy presses shall burst out with new wine." (Proverbs 3:9- 10)
"And all the tithe of the land, whether of the seed of the land, or of the fruit of the tree, is the LORD'S: it is holy unto the LORD." (Leviticus 27:30)
"And concerning the tithe of the herd, or of the flock, even of whatsoever passeth under the rod, the tenth shall be holy unto the LORD." (Leviticus 27:32)
II. S.T. is Selective Bringing. - Tithes in the O.T. were used for the Temple and in Temple ministry. - the local church = storehouse today. - It is NOT up to you to decide where your tithe goes. - Personal Christian duty. - We need to be FAITHFUL in tithing each week."Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house" (Malachi 3:10a)
"...Since the people began to bring the offerings into the house of the LORD, we have had enough to eat, and have left plenty: for the LORD hath blessed his people; and that which is left is this great store." (II Chronicles 31:10)
"(17)Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil. (18)For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled." (Matthew 5:17-18)
III. S.T. is Sincerity Showing. - Take a look at WHERE your heart is. - Are you using the life that God has given you to invest in ETERNAL things? - Be a cheerful, honest giver. - Have a good, giving ATTITUDE. - Are you a thief of God's property?"For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also." (Matthew 6:21)
"Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver." (II Corinthians 9:7)
"Will a man rob God? Yet ye have robbed me. But ye say, Wherein have we robbed thee? In tithes and offerings." (Malachi 3:8)
IV. S.T. is Sacrificial Giving. - Not selfishness. - God owns ALL things anyways. - We are just stewards."Neither was there any among them that lacked: for as many as were possessors of lands or houses sold them, and brought the prices of the things that were sold," (Acts 4:34).
"Having land, sold it, and brought the money, and laid it at the apostles' feet." (Acts 4:37)
"(17)And thou say in thine heart, My power and the might of mine hand hath gotten me this wealth. (18)But thou shalt remember the LORD thy God: for it is he that giveth thee power to get wealth, that he may establish his covenant which he sware unto thy fathers, as it is this day." (Deuteronomy 8:17-18)
V. S.T. is Sober Soul-winnng. - It takes finances to reach out to those who have never heard. - Your tithes are for the support, upkeep, and ministry of your church. - It takes money to light and heat the buildings. - OUTREACH is never easy and certainly costs a great deal."ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth." (Acts 1:8b)
"And he said unto them, Let us go into the next towns, that I may preach there also: for therefore came I forth." (Mark 1:38)
VI. S.T. is Showers Receiving.
- God promises to bless faithful tithers."Prove me now herewith, saith the LORD of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it." (Malachi 3:10b)
See again Proverbs 3:9-10.
