I. CHRIST REPROVES THE PHARISEES (1-11)
A. He And His Disciples Pluck & Eat Corn On The Sabbath (1-5) -- "corn" = grain See I Samuel 21:1-6Once a week on the sabbath, a priest entered the Holy Place of the Tabernacle & placed 12 freshly baked loaves of bread on a small table. This SHEWBRED was normally eaten by the priests on duty.
B. A Man With A Withered Right Hand Restored Whole On The Sabbath (6-11) -- It is lawful to "do good" & "save life" on the sabbath. See Matthew 12:9-14; Mark 3:1-6 II. CHOOSES TWELVE "apostles" (12-16) A. Simon Peter, & Andrew, James & John, Philip & Bartholomew [Nathanael], Matthew [Levi] & Thomas, James son of Alphaeus, & Simon Zelotes [Canaanite], & Judas brother of James [Thaddaeus], & Judas Iscariot B. See Matthew 10:1-4; Mark 3:13-19; John 21:2; Acts 1:13 III. HEALS THE DISEASED AND THOSE WITH "unclean spirits" (17-19) A. The people "came to hear" Him (17) B. Healing was available to ALL that needed it (19) -- This wasn't a 'fake healing' service IV. PREACHES TO HIS DISCIPLES BEFORE THE "people" (20-49) A. Blessings & Woes (20-26) 1. "ye poor" 2. "ye that hunger" 3. "ye that weep" 4. ye that are hated (22-23) 5. "rich!" 6. "you that are full!" 7. "you that laugh now!" 8. ye that are well-liked -- popular in the world's eyes (26) [NOTE: Verses 27 thru 36 are going to be covered in another message this week.] B. The Parable Of The Blind Leading The Blind (39) See Matthew 15:14 C. Of "the mote" & "the beam" (41-42) -- HYPOCRITICAL JUDGING Matthew 7:1-5 D. Be a doer of the word and not a hearer only.
