OUTLINE: The Gospel Of Luke

LUKE 11
'Son Of Man Teaches On Prayer & Demon Possession'

KEY VERSE: 11:35 -- "Take heed therefore that the light which is in thee be not darkness."

I. CHRIST TEACHES US TO PRAY, AND THAT PERSISTENTLY (1-10)

   A. By Example

     1. The Model Prayer (2-4)
-- First praise God then make your requests.
-- God's provision is DAILY, not once and for all (3)

-- We MUST forgive those who have wronged us (4)
           Forgiving means Forgetting too.

        See Matthew 6:6-15

  B. By Instruction (5-10)

     1. The "Friend" at Midnight Wanting 3 Loaves
-- "because of his importunity" (8)

        -- "Ask" for what you do not possess;
           "seek" for what is not apparent;
           "knock" (9)

        -- "every one" -- no exceptions (10)

  C. By Lesson of Asking for "bread", "fish" and "egg" (11-13)
-- God is more than a friend, and will certainly grant our needs much
more readily than the man who had gone to bed.

II. ASSURING US THAT GOD WILL GIVE ALL "good things to them that ask him" (11-13)

  A. See Matthew 7:9-11
-- God is not selfish, begrudging or stingy.
He is a loving Father who understands, cares, and comforts.

III. HE, CASTING OUT A DUMB DEVIL, REBUKES THE BLASPHEMOUS PHARISEES (14- 26)

  A. The Parable of Satan's Kingdom (17-23)

     1. There is no neutral ground (23)
-- If you aren't ACTIVELY for Christ, you are AGAINST Him.

     2. See Matthew 12:24-28; Mark 3:22-26

  B. Of "the unclean spirit" That Returned (24-26)

     1. The vacuum left by the banishment of evil MUST be filled with that
which is good, or else the evil will become WORSE (24)

     2. See Matthew 12:43-45

IV. AND SHOWS WHO ARE TRULY BLESSED (27-28)

    LAWYERS (37-54)

  A. Externalism (38-42)

        -- public show
        -- OUTWARD appearances

     2. "your inward part is full of ravening and wickedness." (39b)
-- washed their HANDS but not their HEARTS
