   Determining the materials to be used.

   Research comes first.
   Various types of preaching material.

   1. Factual--Two (2) sorts.

      a. Basic--from the infallible Word.
         Hermeneutics.

      b. Supplemental--Historical, Biographical, Statistical, Archaeological, 
         etc. 
         "And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded unto them 
          in all the scriptures the things concerning himself."  (Luke 24:27) 

   2. Logical.

      Enables preacher to reason from Biblical facts to a conclusion. 

      Therefore ...
      A term for doctrinal
      Argument from analogy.
      Example: Galatians 3-5 -- Justification by faith (Paul).

   3. Illustrative Material (All serve to clarify).

[Help bring the meaning to the people.]

      a. Examples.
      b. Instances--A shortened example.
      c. Figure of Speech.
      d. Use of Imagery--Word pictures.

[Painting pictures.]

      e. Illustrative.

         Windows--let some light in.
         Use all you can.

         Jesus constantly uses them -- birds, weather, food, money, parable, 
                                       animals, people, places, things, etc. 

         'The oh I got it look'.
