Why I am A Baptist?
The reason I am a Baptist is because the Baptist Church is the only church that can say that is sole rule for life, living and practice is scriptural. The Bible is our rule of faith if its not biblical its not Baptist (Isaiah 8:20). All Baptist doctrine is found in the Bible. Traditions of men have no place in a Baptist church. Any teaching outside the boundary of the Scriptures is heresy and is of the devil and not of God. Every doctrine and truth is tried by the Scripture. People are encouraged to follow along in the Bible to see if the teaching lines up with the Bible. Baptist believe that all Scripture is relevant and is to be used to make people perfect (complete) before a holy God (II Timothy 3:16-17). Every doctrine of the Baptist is found in the Bible. Doctrine and practice separate the Baptists from every others so called denomination. Only God's Word is to be obeyed and feared. The Bible is the only right and good book. It teaches us what to reject, hate, love and obey. God's opinion is the only safe way to follow. Baptist believe the book as others do, but Baptist have also practice the Bible. It only can be concluded that if Christ built one church it must be peculiar to the teachings of the New Testament and have the Bible as its sole rule book. Jesus commanded the first church to only observe all things whatsoever Christ commanded them (Matthew 28:18-20). Anything not commanded by the Bible is to be excluded from our teachings. Baptists don't baptize infants, don't observe foot washing, and don't just make things up because the majority or some leader comes up with a new idea or doctrine. The scope of Baptist teaching is the whole counsel of God. Churches that are one issue or regard only part of the Scriptures error. The reason I am a Baptist is because a Baptist started the Christian movement. John was the man sent from God to make a people ready for Christ, the Messiah, the Saviour of men. The Lord organized a church out of this Baptist's converts. In Isa. 40:3-5, Isaiah prophecies of the Baptist who would baptize Jesus (Mat. 3:13-17), the Apostles (Acts 1:21-22) and the members of the first Baptist church (I Corinthians 12:28). John the Baptist was called a Baptist before he was baptized, the name was given by God. Before he preached, and was baptized he was called "The Baptist" because that was the work he was sent to do (John 4:1). John was called to make Christians and baptize them. His ministry and message is the same for any Baptist preacher today. He preached repentance of sin for salvation (Mat. 3:1-8; II Peter 3:9). This is the message of the whole New Testament in Acts (3:19; 20:21). He preached faith in Jesus Christ, the Lamb of God (John 1:35-37). This is same as the New Testament also (Ephesians 2:8-9; John 3:16-18; John 6:24; Galatians 2:20-21). Thirdly, he preached salvation by the remissions of sins (Luke 1:76-79). Which is also New Testament teaching (Romans 5:8-12; Eph. 1:7). Believers baptism is a Baptist doctrine. (John 3:23; Mat. 3:13; Acts 8:38; Rom. 6:3-4). Baptists are still doing the same work John did. We are still called to teach, to win, to disciple. The people that made up the first church were baptized by John so it is a very reasonable conclusion that what was organized by Jesus (Mat. 16:18; Eph. 2:20) would be known as a Baptist church. The people would be known as Baptists. I am a Baptist because Jesus commissioned that church do his work under His authority (Mat. 28:18-20; Acts 2:42-47). Jesus walked sixty miles to be immersed in the Jordan River by the first Baptist. Baptists only see immersion as the only scriptural practice for baptism anything short of immersion is a bath or a splash. I am a Baptist because Baptist are honest with the Word, we preach the truth in love, we condemn sin, we point the sinner to the Saviour not our church! Baptist don't try to explain why man is to be the leader in the home, why women are to be as they are. We don't take the Bible and explain away things like the creation account in Genesis or the flood or Jonah being swallowed by a whale. God-mothers and god-fathers are not found in the Bible so Baptist don't have them. The Bible teaches personal accountability (Rom. 14:12). True Baptists have never baptized infants or adults, until they have professed that they have been saved (Acts 2:47; Acts 10:43-47). We do not teach the commandments of men for we fear God (Mat. 15:19; Acts 5:29). Baptists believe that Jesus Christ is to be loved more than family, and if family must be forsaken for Him so be it (Mat. 10:34-36). This does not mean that Baptist seek to divide homes, but they put Christ as the center of their lives as the one who is Lord of all. Baptists are scriptural in excepting no other baptism because they are particular in whom they add to the church (Acts 9:26). Unworthy, disorderly walking members need to purged out (I Cor. 5).
I am a Baptist because only the Baptists were organized at the right time. The Protestants were far too late. Jesus built the church (Mat. 16:18). His apostles made up the first church and they all including Jesus were baptized by John and became Baptists (I Cor. 12:28). The apostles were chose in Luke 6. As head and founder of the first Baptist church at Jerusalem. These men made up the first Baptists and the church that Jesus built because it was established during his earthly ministry (Mat. 16:18).
Another reason I am a Baptist is because Christ's church was established in Israel. This was the place of the beginning of the Christian movement, therefore is one's heritage start's anywhere other than in Israel it cannot be the right church. Jesus church was started by a Baptist preaching in the wilderness and its membership was started with primarily Galileans (Jews). The River Jordon is where the first Christians were baptized and these people were Baptists. I am a Baptist because the Baptist churches Head is Jesus, not some earthly sinful man. He was the cornerstone, builder and Lord of the first church of Baptists. His church is a chaste bride (II Cor. 11:2). I am a Baptist because Baptist requires fruits of repentance for baptism or church membership. The Baptists seek only redeemed, born again people for membership. Money, stature or blood line have nothing to do with membership. If you get saved you can become a member through baptism (Acts 2). I am a Baptist because we preached the Bible way of salvation. The whole earth needs to hear of this salvation (Mat. 24:14). It is a whosoever Gospel (Rom. 10). It is a powerful Gospel (I Cor. 1:18). It is a Gospel of repentance and faith (Luke 24; Acts 20). It is an eternal Gospel (John 3:36). It is a Gospel of mercy, grace (Rom. 11; Eph. 2). It is a forever keeping Gospel (John 5:24). It is a Gospel of justification by faith (Rom. 5:1). It is a Gospel of salvation by blood (Rom. 3:24-25). Only Baptist have the right view of a believer. He becomes a believer/child of God the moment he believes and repents (Gal. 3:26; John 1:12). He is born twice (I John 5:1; John 3:3- 6). All his sins are forgiven (Eph. 1:6-7). He is in a state of justification before a holy God (Rom. 5:1). He posses eternal life now (I John 5:1-10-12). He has a gift that will never fade away it is eternal life now (Rom. 8:17). He is now an heir (Rom. 8:17). He is a son by spiritual adoption (Rom. 8:15). The Spirit of God bears witness of this sonship (Rom. 8:16). He is no longer under condemnation (John 3:16-18). He is blood bought (Gal. 3:13). His faith was an act of trusting and committing his soul to God (Eph. 1:12-13; II Tim. 1:12). Salvation came by the Word of God only (Rom. 10:17). Nothing can keep him from God's love now (Rom. 8:35-39). His hope is in the Rapture (I Pet. 1:1-4; II Thessalonians 2:14-16). A mansion awaits him in Heaven (John 14:1-3). He cannot perish (John 10:27-29). He lives a new life (II Cor. 5:17). He is a new person (II Cor. 5:17). He is ashamed of his old life (Rom. 6:21). He is motivated by love to serve God (II Cor. 5:14; Rom. 5:5). He will be chasten as a son (Hebrews 12:5-9). God will discipline him (Psalm 89:27-34). This view of a believer is unique to Baptists.
Another reason why I am a Baptist is because only Baptists teach a correct view of the lost man, the unregenerate man, or the natural man. The natural man is without God and is condemned by God for his sin here and now (John 3). He is under the wrath of God (John 3:36). He is dead to the spiritual (Eph. 2:1). His walk through life says that God is a liar (I John 5:10-12). He is an enemy of God (Rom. 5:10). His thinking opposes God (Rom. 8:7). His works for God are dead (Rom. 7:4). God loves the lost man (Rom. 5:8-10). He is without real hope (Eph. 2:12). He is child of wrath (Eph. 2:2). His only hope is the grace of God (Eph. 2:7-8). His heart loves the way of unrighteous and without being born again, he shall not see life (John 3:3-6,36). He will die in his sins if he doesn't get saved (John 8:22-24). He has no spiritual discernment, he cannot understand the Bible or why born again believers do what they do (I Cor. 2:14). Satan has blinded his eyes to the glorious Gospel (II Cor. 4:4). He has rejected the prophets of the Bible and therefore the whole Bible (Acts 10:43). His sins are forgivable, but only if he will come God's way (Eph. 1:4-7; John 14:6). He is a damnable state and must believe lest he die in that state (I Pet. 1:18). He is a rebel at heart (Rom. 8:7). He has a wicked vile body and mind (Rom. 3). Satan is his master and lord (Luke 11:20-22). His destiny is Hell, not Heaven (Psa. 11:6). His heart is wicked, but he thinks he's okay (Proverbs 14:12; Jeremiah 17:9). He has evil heart that causes him to do wickedness (Ecclesiastes 8:1). He didn't have to be taught to wrong, he is naturally incline to evil (Psa. 58:3). He thinks preaching is foolish and worthless (I Cor. 1:18).
The next reason, I am a Baptist is because the Bible stands against sin and so do real Baptists. Baptist condemn cursing and vain talk (Pro. 10:9). Baptists condemn neglect of opportunity to do good when its in our power to do so (James 4:17). We preach that men are getting worse and worse, not better (I Tim. 3). Baptists preach against sexual sins. Baptist stand against sodomy, abortion, gay rights, equal rights. We preach against lying (Pro. 10:1). We preach against crooked business (Pro. 2:15). We preach against sins destructiveness, we warn out of love (Hosea 13:9). We preach the wages of sin (Rom. 6:23). We preach the law of sowing and reaping (Gal. 6:7). We preach that evil work must be put down quickly or it will spread (Ecc. 8:11). We preach that the majority love the wicked way (Rom. 1). We preach salvation as the remedy of sin (Heb. 9:28). We preach Christ as the sin bearer, the Lamb of God (Heb. 9:28). We preach the great price for sins atonement (Isa. 53). We preach the remedy of sin, the bread of life (John 3 and John 6).
I am a Baptist because Baptist's have a right view of the church. We are not called to civilize the heathen, but to convert them to Christianity. The church is not social club or a humanitarian aid base. The focus of a church is to bring people to spiritual message and to help them walk in accordance to the will of God. Why was the Baptist church founded: to fulfil the Great Commission. The Bible clearly teaches that the Gospel will make people Christians, and then make them Baptist through Baptist baptism. The church program is found in the Great Commission. It is a commission to the immediate community all the way to the uttermost parts of the earth (Acts 1:8). I am therefore a Baptist because Baptist put salvation before Baptism, church member or any other thing. The next goal is to see these Christians baptized into a local New Testament Baptist church. The third goal, is to teach these converts the whole counsel of God. All three parts must be followed or the Christian will be left to the wolves as a new babe. The responsibility to teach and indoctrinate saved people lies squarely on the church, I am a Baptist because Baptist don't minimize certain Bible teaching because of convenience or pressure from people.
Each Baptist church therefore ought to seek to preach the Gospel to every creature that lives in the world, to baptize those that gladly receive the free gift of salvation, then to teach the saved that have been baptized, the commandments of Christ. I shall end this paper by showing that doctrine separates us from other denominations. We teach Christ as our only mediator and intercessor between God and man (Heb. 7:25; I Tim. 2:15). Baptists teach the new birth, except your born again you will not go to Heaven, this includes everyone (John 3:1-6). The heathen must hear or they will go to Hell (Rom. 1). Baptists teach that the Gospel is the way of salvation and substitution (Act 20:24). Baptist teach that all members are equal in status in the church, with the overseers having a special place of honor because they watch over the rest (Heb. 13; Acts 1:26). Baptist teach that is the personal responsibility of every person to believe and take responsibility for his soul (Rom. 14; John 3). Baptists believe in a literal Hell and Heaven, and no purgatory (Luke 18; John 14). That the death of a person ushers them into eternity in Hell or Heaven (Mat. 13). Baptists believe in cooperation of churches having ability to discipline the missionary (II Cor. 9; Acts 13). Baptist believe that salvation has never changed, Abraham's way of salvation was by faith and not works (Gal. 13; Rom. 4). Heaven is reserved only for saved people, the people of God (John 14; Revelation 21). Hell is a place for unbelievers, Satan and fallen angels. It is a place of eternal punishment, where real people will suffer forever (Mat. 25). Baptists believe in a prevailing church, not a church that failed (Mat. 16:18). Baptists believe in one Lord, one faith, and one baptism. Their are few or none that believe this Bible doctrine (Eph. 4:5). Baptists believe in the inspiration of the Scriptures both in English and in other languages (II Tim. 3:16). Baptists believe in a triune God who is the only God and the one we serve in whom we were created to do his will (Rom. 1:20; Rev. 4). Baptists believe in the personal, bodily return of Jesus Christ, where the dead in Christ will join the living saints to meet Christ in the air to ever be with him (I Thess. 4). Baptists believe that the Gospel and Word of God are the only seeds that can bring a new birth (Rom. 10; I Pet. 1:23; Eph. 1). Baptists believe in the resurrection of Christ from the dead and that without it our religion is vain (I Cor. 15). Baptists believe God created the world as accounted in Genesis. (Rom. 1; Psa. 100; Colossians 1; Heb. 1). Baptists teach that Adam fell and that fall because of this natural nature (Rom. 5; Genesis 3). Baptist are one of only a few that believe in once saved always saved a doctrine supported throughout the Bible (Rom. 8; John 10). Baptist teach that it is the acceptable will of God to work for God, to live for God and to give God (Rom. 12; Heb. 7). Baptist observe the Lord's Supper scripturally. They teach it is a memorial to the death of Christ, not a sacrament. It should be observed because it was commanded. This supper should take place as often as a set local church wants to and should only be observed by its members in right standing with God (I Cor. 11). Baptist reject the idea of fermented wine to be used it on the grounds of it condemnation throughout the Bible. Baptist believe the Son is divine and has always existed (Gen. 2; John 1; Eph. 1; Col. 1). Baptist are therefore the only one I know of who tenaciously adhere to biblical principles, who preach like John the Baptist, Jesus and the apostles with authority from God, and who practice (live) by the Bible, because they are a peculiar people zealous of good works.
I am a Baptist finally because of historic evidence by other religious people and historians who say the Baptists were the only one who were Christians in the first Century. Baptist are the only one's who want to follow God above men and as a result have suffered great persecution throughout their history (Acts 5:29). Historically, Baptists have never believed or created doctrine outside the bounds of the Scripture. Baptists have always had the same Gospel, the same Jesus, standards, separation from false brethren that they have today.
